Evangelista Torricelli Biography (1608-1647). (2013). Retrieved Feburary 16th, 2013, from MadeHow.com: http://www.madehow.com/inventorbios/51/Evangelista-Torricelli.html
This site’s information is about the history and findings of Evangelist Torricelli. It start by telling the reader about his early life, for example; where he was born, where he was educated, and what roles he had in life. It later tells the reader about how and why the barometer works and the reasoning behind the use of mercury. The site also mentions other contributions that Torricelli made towards science. This source was very useful giving lots of information about Torricelli, in both his background, his contribution to the understanding of gases and all other contributions that he had made towards science. Overall this site contained most information that is needed about Torricelli for this particular assignment and therefore a very useful source.
Green, J. M., & Peterson, A. (n.d.). GAY-LUSSAC -- SCIENTIST. Retrieved Feburary 26th, 2013, from Woodrow.org: http://www.woodrow.org/teachers/ci/1992/gay-lussac.html
This site contained information about the way that Gay-Lussac had come to his conclusions with his gas law and Charles’ law and a very descriptive history about him including why and how he got introduced into chemistry, what he did before he discovered his law and basic family information. Overall this site gave great information about his background history before he discovered the theory of his gas law. The only issue with this site was that it didn’t describe a lot about how about he came to his conclusions in a way that I needed for this assignment. Overall this site was very useful for all information about Gay-Lussac except his experiments and calculations.
Amedeo Avogadro Biography. (2013). Retrieved Feburary 25th, 2013, from About.com: http://chemistry.about.com/od/famouschemists/a/avogadro.htm
This site mainly describes Avogadro’s life and all the major events that were in it, this site is meant to be a biography of sorts and so addresses most of his life events. The site does also briefly describe Avogadro’s Law and describes what it is. Overall the most useful part of this site was to get all the background info on Avogadro and most of it is a short biography. I didn’t really use this site for his law as it wasn’t detailed enough.
Robert Boyle. (n.d.). Retrieved Feburary 20th, 2013, from Chemical Heritage Foundation: http://www.chemheritage.org/discover/online-resources/chemistry-in-history/themes/early-chemistry-and-gases/boyle.aspx
The information within this site is comprised mainly of his biography and contributions he made towards science. It describes his early life and mentions what he studied at his time at Oxford University. The site also mentions about the books that he wrote including the one with his hypothesis and theory for what we know as Boyle’s law. This site was very helpful for information about Boyle’s life including where he was born, where he grew up and where he was educated. It also describes his law and theories that he had that conflicted with previous ones. Overall a very useful site for getting all the base information about Boyle.
